Encanto Jalatlaco Bed and Breakfast

Encanto Jalatlaco translated means Charming Jalatlaco with the name Jalatlaco being the very old eastern neighborhood of the city of Oaxaca. Jalatlaco roughly translated from the Aztec language of Nahuatl means Sandy Embankment for this area bordered an old river that ran one block away from our B&B. The river is now paved over but it lives on in our streets that are lined with its river stones.

The Encanto Jalatlaco is the second B&B of the three we operate in Oaxaca. The location of the Encanto is set apart from the daily rigamoaro of city life yet we are still within easy walking distance to all the city's major attractions and restaurants. The location is very quiet with the sounds of birds waking you softly in the mornings. We opened our doors as a B&B 2005 and since then we have had the pleasure of hosting many guest who have enjoyed the B&B as well as the location.

The Encanto Jalatlaco offers two rooms in the main house and another large room set apart in the garden. The main house a a wrap-around porch where you can sit or relax in our king size hammock while enjoying a glass of complimentary beer or wine.

All guest are served a full breakfast typical of Oaxaca every morning either in our main dining area or outside on our large porch. A typical breakfast will include either fresh brewed coffee from Oaxaca, local herbal teas, or frothing hot mexican chocolate made from an old family recipe that is whipped by hand at your table. Assorted fresh sweet rolls are served to accompany your hot beverages, and home-made tortillas are served with your hot main course that changes daily. Your breakfast is also accompanied by a fresh in-season fruit juice as well as a variety of home-made salsas. Special attention is always given to those who have food allergies.

Your hosts, Maria and her sister Nora, look forward to having the pleasure of serving you during your time in Oaxaca.
